Alternative Programme - Queen's Birthday Weekend May 29 - June 1st, 2009

For those visiting our region and not planning to attend the amateur radio orientated events we have arranged an exciting two day alternative program.

You will find a full timetable of events at the bottom of this page.

Saturday Morning - May 30th 2009

Our Art Deco tour takes you along to Napier's famous Marine Parade and around the Napier Hill to historic Ahuriri, the oldest part of Napier and it's original port, to the world famous National Tobacco Company building then on to the Deco houses and gardens of Marewa, Napier's 1930s Art Deco suburb.

You'll visit the Art Deco Shop and travel through suburbs reclaimed from swamps by engineers and also the 1931 earthquake

Saturday Afternoon - May 30th 2009

Visit the the Arataki Honey Visitor Centre and participate in free honey tasting with staff explaining the different honey types and flavours. Each member will be given a free 250gram pot of Arataki Honey.

Then on to Black Barn where you will enjoy the tasting of Hawkes Bay's best red and white wines and browse the Black Barn Art Gallery.

Visit the Te Mata Cheese Factory where you will learn how boutique cheeses are made and taste the some of the many different types of sheep, cow and goat cheeses marketed by this award winning company.

Sunday - May 31st 2009

You will visit Wool World and watch sheep shearing using modern and historical ways of shearing.

See the Clifton museum and enjoy a comprehensive assortment of old farming memorabilia plus a display of the Clifton history. Then, on to Clearview Estate Winery to enjoy wine tasting and a desert wine in the vineyard with a tour and talk from Tim the owner.

The last stop is Prenzels for tastings of delicious schnapps and olive oils with bread.
